Companies are most unhelpful and it is a mystery why they continue to talk about their customer "service" departments. More like customer dis-service!
Bought a steam generator ironing board from Argos last December. Within a couple of weeks it collapsed while I was doing hte ironing. Could have been a nasty accident and broken the iron. Took it back and got a replacement. Less than two months later and the replacement has done exactly the same thing!
Rang the manufacturer Lloyd Pascal & Company who are based in Birmingham. Guy who answered the phone seemed very blase aout it and just offered to send a new board. When I said how concerned I was about the potential fr a serious accident he merely said that I could have my money back.
I suggested he should be more concerned and asked to receive a letter from the managing director to assure me that the matter had been taken up at the highest level. He said that would only happen if I wrote in. When I raised my voice to query why I was being put through additional problems he threatened to cut me off and refused to give me his name.
Eventually he claimed to be Terry Dean, the company's customer services manager. He agreed to send a new board and to write confirming outr conversation and the fact that the quality assurance manager would personally check the board before it was despatched to ensure it did not have a similar problem.
I repeated that I wanted the managing director to sign a letter and Mr Dean told me the MD would not do so unless I had written in. I suggested that he should include that statement in his letter. At this point he decided that the managing director could be involved.
I will wait to see but I suggest anyone buying a steeam generator iron from Argos that is made by Lloyd Pascal treats it with a great deal of caution.
And if anyone else knows about similar problems with these boards, do let me know.
